Summer is fun for us, but very hot for birds! When the sun is shining and the ground is dry, birds find it hard to find food and water. We can help them in our gardens with a few easy ideas.
Give Them Water š§
Birds need water to drink and to splash in. You can:
Put out a bowl of clean water (not too deep!).
Refill it every day so it doesnāt dry up.
Put it in the shade so it stays cool.

Make Shade š³
Birds get hot just like us. They love shady places to rest. You can help by:
Planting bushes or flowers.
Leaving hedges or trees for cover.
Putting water bowls near shade.
š Picture idea: A blackbird sitting in a leafy tree.
Give Tasty Treats šš»
Some foods go bad in the sun, so try:
Sunflower seeds or peanuts (unsalted!).
Chopped apple, pear, or grapes.
Raisins soaked in water (so they are soft).
š Picture idea: A small bird pecking at fruit on a plate.
Add a Splash š¦
Birds love moving water. If you can:
Make a bird bath with a trickle of water.
Use a little fountain or dripper.
Even a dripping bottle can be fun for them!
š Picture idea: A sparrow having a bath in a puddle.
Keep Them Safe š”ļø
Birds can get scared or hurt by cats. So try to:
Put water bowls up high or near bushes.
Keep them away from places where cats hide.
Be a Birdās Friend š„
If you keep helping birds every day, theyāll know your garden is a safe place. Theyāll come back again and again ā and youāll get to watch them splash, sing, and play!

⨠Top Tip Box (for kids):
Change water every morning.
Clean bowls once a week.
Write down how many different birds you see!
